sowing the seeds to health
With an interest in Irish folklore, I fell in love with the magic of plants around the age of 15 and it was a few years later that I discovered that a degree in herbal medicine existed - instinctively I knew it was the path for me.
In 2013 I qualified as a medical herbalist, with a 2:1, from the University of Lincoln.
In June 2014 I launched The Little Herbalista as part of a Nationwide competition called TestTown, run by the Carnegie Trust UK. The idea was to get young people to test a business idea by creating a pop-up shop and trade in town centre locations.
I used the competition as a platform to introduce people to the wonders of herbs and was honoured to have won the local heat in Coleraine. I then took part in the Grand Final in Cambridge the following October.
The entire experience was amazing and a little overwhelming, it gave me the opportunity to test trade within a town centre location and inspired a passion to engage with people about their health in a more open setting.
The journey that began as a competition inspired my partner, Duncan, and I to open a Tea Bar that would also include a treatment space for us both to practice our respective complementary medicine fields. The process has taken us down a route that we had never anticipated before taking part in TestTown, but once we got the bug of trading in a town centre location, we were determined to see our vision come to fruition.
So, since launching The Little Herbalista I have split my time between working full time, developing my skills as a practitioner and the next step on the journey was to create a range of teas that saw the launch of INFUSE Artisan Tea in March 2016. Then in August 2017, Duncan and I finally saw our dream through by opening Northern Ireland's very first Tea Bar in Coleraine. Duncan has been practising Deep Tissue Massage in the treatment room above the Tea Bar since April 2018, and almost a year after opening I am finally ready to relaunch my herbal practice.
sowing the seeds to health
As a herbalist, my role is to use herbs to facilitate and support you on your path towards better health. The words Empower, Nurture and Resolve are the keystones of my philosophy.
Empower - As a herbalist my aim is to inspire you to think differently about your health, empowering you to take control of your health and well-being. We will work together to explore the root cause of your health issue and create a manageable treatment plan that includes conscious choices towards better health.
Nurture - As we work together to explore the underlying cause of your health concern, my aim is to provide you with support and guidance to promote the body's own natural healing abilities. Together we can plant the seeds, which can help nurture and strengthen your body.
Resolve - Your bespoke herbal formulation is crafted after careful deliberation and research into your case. High quality herbs are selected and tailored to your individual needs, all of which is designed to resolve the root cause of your health issue.
